Yes, you are reading right. It is Wonderful Wednesday and I am posting this on an actual Wednesday. I am, aren’t I? I have no clue what day of the week it is to be quite honest because of the bank holiday, and September just rolled in so my brain is working overtime with thoughts of autumn, final year stress, and… Christmas (?!?!). So let’s get this positivity out there and overshare to our hearts content.

My parents have been away on holiday this week and I’ve been getting used to doing things for myself again. In my first year of university I moved into halls and had to get my arse into “adult” gear, and then things went a tiny bit pear shaped so I moved back in with the old folks (sorry mum!). I’m still trying to remember how to actually do things for myself without creating a bomb site (you should see the laundry room), but I’m getting there!

My friends came for the weekend and we spent the entire time laughing, dancing around the living room, drinking naughty cocktails, and watching completely trashy TV. It was nice to have people to fill this big house while the parents are away, and it took my mind off a lot of things that were going on. See the above pear shaped post to get an idea.

I got my timetable for my final year and although I can’t attend the first two weeks (oh crap!), it looks exciting. There’s strategic thinking, management skills, independent study… and much more. My mind is completely buzzing with things to do for my independent study – social networking in the entertainment industry, theatre case studies, what makes a good show, the future of marketing… I’m getting giddy! And as weird as it sounds, I’m excited at the prospect of being in 4 days a week because it’ll keep me busy and I love busy!

I paid £400 off my credit card – yes, it has a £1000 limit and I was up to my last few pence, but I made a deal with myself to pay it off this year. For some bizarre reason I never managed to pay it off last year even though I had the exact same job which pays incredibly well. I checked my statements and I paid, get this, £50 off. That is absolutely pathetic, right? So the deal is done. I’m paying the remaining £600 off next month which gets rid of the £50/month charges – um, what to do with the extra cash?! Well it is my final year after all… and there will be lots of parties… Lizzie, you have a deal.

How wonderful is your Wednesday?

Last Thursday just so happened to be payday, and bearing in mind that I’m a student… I pay no tax. Hoorah! So it always leaves me with a little extra cash to treat myself with, and I even managed to pay 40% of my credit card off this month. And next month the other 60% is getting paid off and I’ll be debt free with £50 extra a month (damn those credit card charges) to spend. On top of that I paid all the bills for my new flat even though I’m not living there yet. And I even managed to pay for all of the materials needed to host a small, but fabulous, gathering at my house on Saturday. After all of that? I had some spare cash left over so I went a little crazy with the old debit, yes I said debit, card. And here are the results…

J'adore ruffles, platforms, Uggs, and fancy phones.

I am well aware that once this year is over and I am no longer a student that life will change. Payday will mean so much more to me than it does now, but hey, while I’m young with very little to worry about I’m allowed to treat myself, right? And those shoes needed a good home… or so I keep telling myself.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been horrendously busy at work… just in case you hadn’t noticed So I thought I’d give you an idea of what a normal day is like for me because a) it’s the only thing I can come up with right now, and b) I usually forget how busy I am during the summer and sign up to do it all again the following year – but not next year, no way josé! And inspiration for this weeks post comes from one of my favourites, Ginger.

My alarm normally goes off at 7:45am and I rarely hit the snooze button purely because I don’t have time. My alarm is set to go off at the latest possible time so I have to get up. Plus, if I hit snooze I’ll fall asleep at my desk ’cause it throws me right out of whack! I normally head downstairs and make myself a lovely cup of sweet tea, have a cigarette (boo, hiss!), and then rev up the old laptop for half an hour because early morning TV sucks.

I then set off on my 20 minute journey to work through the last of the rush hour traffic, and normally have my “Commute” playlist blaring very loudly. If I told you what was on it I’d have to kill you but the words Michael and Bolton appear together rather a lot. Once I pull into the office car park I have another sneaky cigarette (boo, hiss!) and then head into the office. Well, I head straight into the kitchen to make myself another cup of sweet, sweet tea. Or coffee. It changes daily.

I then wander slowly upstairs, shout hello to anyone in earshot, and plonk myself down at my desk which normally has forms, post-its, and random pieces of paper all over it. Only thing is, I can’t for the life of me remember why I wrote these post-its so their job is pointless – but they’re pretty and pink so they’ll do. Once I’m all logged in, after the third attempt at getting my password right, I open up Tweetdeck, Gmail, and my reader because my priorities are completely sorted. Once I’ve spent half an hour checking my tweets, mail, and feeds do I actually begin to go through the junk in my work inbox.

Throughout the morning I can normally be heard singing along to the radio, swearing at my computer screen, or shouting very loudly at an international student who cannot speak a word of English. Once lunch time arrives I tend to just sit at my desk, chat to my colleagues for a bit, and then go grab some food which is normally a sandwich, crisps, and a chocolate bar. And I always bring sweets back for the office. They actually call me a “feeder” – I don’t really know how to take that…

After lunch, I repeat all of the above but at a much faster pace because the big cheese seems to think that deadlines for the end of the day should be set 2 hours beforehand. Thankfully, she normally forgets she even set a deadline and I’m left with a huge pile of complete work which she doesn’t even ask to see. Once it’s 5pm I’m straight out of the office, in my car, and driving into the horrendous rush hour traffic. I hate this journey. It takes twice as long and everyone drives like an absolute maniac.

At 5.45pm I’m home. I head straight for the comfort of my pyjamas, check my e-mails, have a bath, and then sit in front of the TV with my mum for most of the night.

Rinse and repeat.

Describe your normal day.

Unfortunately I’ve done absolutely nothing this weekend apart from work, and absolutely fail at being a good friend so I’ll skip that and just go straight to the questions (courtesy of Saturday 9)

1. Where were you the last time that someone welcomed you back?
I have absolutely no idea when I last welcomed someone back. If it was the other way around it’d be when I went back to work over the summer because I’d not seen everyone for about 9 months. As for welcoming someone back, it’s everyday when my mum gets in from work or when my cats stroll in from street wandering. I wish I had something more exciting to tell you…

2. Tell us who is you favorite non-family member to hang out with?
Every single one of my girl friends – I look forward to seeing them because we live so far apart. And you can’t make me choose between them because that’s just wrong and I’ll report you to the… um… friend police. Yeah, that’s right. The best thing is that I get to hang out with a few of them at the weekend because I’m hosting my very first BBQ – eeek, much? Plenty of wine will do the trick.

3. What was the last thing that happened to anger you?
Strangely enough, I was going to write a blog post on this but thought I’d save you from my livid-ness. But to cut a long story short, I booked train tickets last night because I was going out with a friend today. I got to the station to pick them up and the guy said he couldn’t print them. He said it was all fine but they just wouldn’t print. That’s fine, I’ll take a refund and buy some new ones. I have 5 minutes so, y’know, make it fast. Instead he wrote me a stupid note, stamped it with the wrong date, and told me to use that. Mhm, yeah, OK. If it didn’t work I’d have to pay a full fare which I cannot afford four days before payday. So I miss the train. I can’t make the next one. And everything is bad in the world. And that was the short story.

4. What was the last thing that you saw that was shocking to see?
In a literal sense, my dad gave himself an electric shock this evening but it was his own fault. He brought it on himself. You see, we have a bat we use to get rid of flies, and when you press a button it electrocutes them. It goes bang when you catch one and it scares the hell outta me. Unfortunately, and my dad didn’t realise, it’s still live even if you don’t press the button. So him being the big man starts touching it and saying, “See, no shock!” Five seconds later… bang, yelp, grown man with a quivering bottom lip. That’ll teach him.

5. What is your favourite thing to do on Saturday?
When I’m working I love to catch up on TV I’ve missed throughout the week and just do nothing. If I’m not working then Saturday is normally the day I try to do last minute assignments, or web design jobs. My Saturdays are pretty laid back whatever I’m doing…

6. Have you had your summer vacation yet? If yes tell us about it.
I’m not going on one this year but… my parents are – woohoo! I’d much rather earn some extra cash at work than lie about in the sun, which I hate. I do not do sun very well. We’re not friends.

7. Pick out one of your cousins and tell us about them.
I don’t really know my cousins so I could probably give you a run down of them in a sentence. One is married, one is engaged, one is a bum, and one lives in Australia. Oh, and one likes fishing. So yeah, we’re a close family…

8. Do you have any special plans for next week?
On Saturday I’m hosting a BBQ for the very first time. I have a few of my favourite people coming over so we’re going to eat lots, drink lots, and dance lots. All in the comfort of my own home. So Mother Nature. I need to have a few words about rain – save it until Sunday, yeah? Otherwise you and I are going to fall out.

9. At what age will you consider yourself old and why?
When I hit 40 I will no longer consider myself a spring chicken, but you’re as young as you feel sisters!! However, I’m 22 and I feel about 30. It’s not looking good is it?

If you fancy having a go, feel free to comment with your answers or take them over to your blog!

This week I’m changing things up a bit and doing it a bit differently – I’m going to give you some pretty crap things but change them into positives because it’s good for the mind y’know So… on with the wonderfuls!

I was told at work today that I need to be available to work 5 days a week until my contract is up in October. I’m contracted to work 4 days a week for a reason. I am a student and, therefore, have summer assignments to complete and the odd class to go to. My boss told me we could, “Discuss it nearer the time” which means, “Don’t even think about it.”
On the positive side… think of the extra £57/$89 per week I will earn, and how much this will benefit me when I have credit cards to pay back and student loans to pay.

My friend’s aunty died the other day – she was in her mid 30s, very fit, yet died of a heart attack. She leaves behind 2 young children and her husband.
On the positive side… she came to me first because I’ve been through this kind of shock in the past year and I’m her oldest friend. That made me feel incredibly happy that I could be there for her. And her husband is just an absolute inspiration to the children – obviously he’s grieving but everything he is doing is for their benefit. Honestly, it’s just amazing to see. I wish I’d had his strength a few months back.

My parents are going away on holiday to Spain next week for 8 days. Yes, I should be happy to have the house to myself but when you’ve got mental health issues, like myself, it’s causes panic. I’m going to be alone in the house, I have to go to bed alone in the dark, and I have to make sure everything is locked and safe. That kind of stuff is enough to make me want to hide away until they get back. A “normal” person would be fine, but I think someone is going to break into the house and kill me – seriously. Like, really seriously. There are a lot of other things going on in my head but I won’t go into it because it’s not good for me, or you, to hear about it.
On the positive side… My lovely besties are coming for a BBQ and are staying with me for a couple of days so I’ll feel better with them here – we’ll be drinking lots of wine, playing music very loudly, and eating absolute junk for the whole bank holiday weekend. I’m also working full time that week so that’ll take my mind off things too

And that is how you do a WW – I know there are only 3 things there but at the moment I don’t have time to think about anything else. I’m completely swamped with work because it’s one of the busiest weeks for UK universities and I just so happen to work in one of them. So excuse the lack of updates but my day consists of wake up… work… bed. Normal service will resume shortly.
