I don’t normally blog about stories in the media, especially celebrity stories, but this one has really caught my eye. So let’s start with the background information. John Terry – England football captain, club captain, and an all round good talent… so everybody thought until allegations of his personal life came out in the press. It was revealed that he had a 5 month affair with one of his team mates ex girlfriends. He failed to get an injunction through the courts so all of this has completely blown up – think Tiger Woods and you’ll get the picture. Terry has a wife, 2 kids, and a huge career but not anymore. This afternoon he was dropped as England captain and this angers me in a way – I honestly don’t think it’s fair. In no way am I condoning the fact that he had an affair – that’s wrong especially when he has children. But to be sacked over it? That’s wrong.
Reasons behind the sacking are that he’ll cause friction in the changing rooms, and that he’s a bad role model for supporters and fans. It should be up to John Terry and Wayne Bridge (the ex parner of the mistress) to decide whether there is tension between them, and if so it should also be up to them to decide how to solve it. If this involves one or both of them stepping down then fine – it should be a resignation and not a sacking. And the bad role model thing – that is absolute rubbish. You can’t honestly sit here and tell me that the rest of England’s footballers are sparkly clean and saintly. Far from it, but it’s only because the media have managed to reveal Terry’s affair that he becomes the one representing everyone else – can anybody say scapegoat?
I seem to remember allegations of David Beckhams “alleged” affair having absolutely no affect on his career. And a previous England manager had an affair but everyone soon forgot about that. John Terry has led the England team out on many occasions, showing rare leadership qualities and passion for the game. Don’t punish him for making a stupid mistake. If it was any normal job, and I realise it isn’t, he wouldn’t be sacked – if a work colleagues wife had been involved then he should step down with what little dignity he has left but John Terry hasn’t been given this option. I know I’m started to rant but I just cannot get my head around it. We’re months away from the World Cup and they sack the man who shows more promise than we’ve seen in years.
Human nature is so constituted, that all see and judge better in the affairs of other men than in their own.

I managed to complete one of my 101‘s yesterday because… I went to watch Britain’s Got Talent and it was brilliant. We arrived at the theatre about 11.30am and saw the queue to get in looping round the building about 10 times over. I was not up for queueing in that! But Lisa, our friend with the tickets, informed us that we had priority over them and we went right to the front – score! After a couple of hours we were finally let in and ended up 6 rows back from the judges, with an amazing view of the stage! We sat there for another hour or so while the crew set up during which time a warm up man came on and got the audience all hyper.
At around 3pm the judges were introduced and they had to walk down the aisle through the audience. Wait a minute, I was on the aisle. O.M.G. I am going to piss. Piers and Amanda came in first and I smiled sweetly at them, but then Mr Cowell walked in. The place went crazy hysterical and it took him about 5 minutes to get to my spot. Once he was in front of me I held out my hand, he shook it and stared at me with the most intense face I’ve ever seen – that man is scary as. He took his seat and then the auditions began. I was quite surprised that we only got to see about 15 or so acts in 5 hours but they have to set up the stage in between acts – it’s not as smooth as it is on TV! Simon gets his make-up re-applied between every other act, and sits and waits patiently – at one point he must have been sat there for about 20 minutes and didn’t complain once – granted he looked bored, but so did I!
Although it was a very long day it passed incredibly quickly and I loved every minute of it. Simon is exactly as he is on TV – often very rude – but when he meets people he is incredibly polite and gracious. If you shake his hand he says, “Hello, are you ok?” and waits for a response before moving on. Piers and Amanda were quite rude, especially Amanda, who carried on talking when an act walked on stage and didn’t give them her attention until they started their audition. We saw a spoon player, an organ master, an eyebrow dancer, an artistic pole dancer… and plenty of singing kids. If they want variety then they certainly got it!!
Afterwards we went for a quick Italian before I caught my last train home at 9pm, and headed straight to bed when I finally got in at 11pm. Would love to do it again – maybe next year…
