So yesterday I hauled my arse out of the house and into the show to go and watch Nine with Vix. Now, if you go by basic plot – musical, lots of stars, big set – then it’s my kind of film. After sitting through 2 hours of it, I realised it was so very far from my type of film. Actually sitting here and thinking about writing some kind of “review” about it bores me. Rarely do I go to the cinema and watch 50% of the audience walk out in the first hour, but I kept at it because I knew Vix really wanted to see it. Turns out, once it had finished, she thought the same about me so we both had sat there and endured it.

Apparently the film is about Daniel Day Lewis – or “Guido” – trying to write a script for his new film, and meeting various women along the way including Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, and Nicole Kidman. Each woman has a “number”, my favourites being Fergie and Kate Hudson. That’s it in a nut shell. Now, I’m not a film reviewer so pardon me when I call this film an arty-farty piece of high brow tosh. I believe that musicals should be accessible to everyone but they were trying so damn hard to win an Oscar that it alienated most of the audience, and probably put a fair few people off seeing a musical in the near future – that’s how awful it was.

In future, I’ll read some actual reviews before I head out to the cinema – had I done this yesterday I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near this film. So if that was the first film I saw in 2010, things can only get better right?

P.S. We will finally have our central heating back on today – don’t cheer too loudly!
